After School Hiking Program
A new and exciting initiative in fall 2016 has been the creation of a hiking club as part of the after school program for sixth and seventh graders at Polk County Middle School. Each Wednesday, a club of around 15 students is transported from the Middle School to one of the area trails.
The students have a chance to exercise and explore their home county while also gaining knowledge on flora, fauna, geology, and history of the area.
The club is run by Sixth Grade Science teacher, Rowann Hoy as well as the Polk County Trails Coordinator, Travis Cherry.
